To disable auto-update in Adobe Reader:
This is applicable to older versions (e.g. 6.x, 5.x). For the newer versions (e.g. 6.x), please see our previous tip of this series.
 

  1. Start Adobe Reader
  2. From the menu, choose "Edit" and then select "Preferences...":


     
  3. Select "Update" from the left pane of the Preferences dialog box:



     
  4. Change the Check for Updates: option from "Every Month" to "Manually":


     
  5. Click OK and done.
